Rhea Bhandare is a partner & co-founder of 5 Sports. She has a B.A. degree from the Ivy League, University of Pennsylvania (UPENN), U.S, and has previously worked with some prominent establishments in the corporate world across management consulting, public relations and retail.
Rhea is also a four time Indian Junior National Squash Champion. She represented India internationally from the age of 11, winning tournaments across Asia, Europe and the United States. She has also represented India at the Asian Junior Squash Championship and Pre-Common Wealth Games. Her highest rank in squash was 3rd, globally in the juniors category. She went onto represent UPENN in squash and was awarded the All-American title, given to top players in the USA.
After being in the corporate world for 7 years, Rhea decided to join her family business and is currently a partner at Bhandare Eyecare, Mumbai’s leading optical retailer for over 80 years. It was while working in the business when she decided to start her own entrepreneurial venture, with the range of her own eyewear range, RBee Eyewear. In early 2017, Rhea decided to follow her passion for entrepreneurship and sports once again and founded 5 Sports. She aspires to build sports programs and centers across the country being able to make a difference in some way to peoples lives in India.
Jay Jhaveri, partner and co-founder of 5 Sports has graduated from The Sydenham College of Commerce & Economics, Mumbai, India. Jay has been running a 100 year old family business of Diamonds & Jewellery since 1995. He has played leading roles in setting up jewellery manufacturing units and developed businesses in the USA, Middle East, Russia, Nepal and South East Asian Countries besides India. Today, his company JDIAM, is a well established online and offline retail jewellery brand.
Jay, an avid squash player himself has been the convener of the squash department at the National Sports Club of India (NSCI) since the past 5 years. The squash academy which was set up under his guidance and leadership at NSCI includes over 150 children and adults, 5 head coaches, 10 assistant coaches and several fitness, mental and yoga trainers. He has conducted, coordinated and directed over a dozen tournaments which include SRAM (Squash Rackets Association of Maharashtra), SRFI 2, 3 & 4 star (Squash Rackets Federation of India), ASF Silver (Asian Squash Federation), PSA Indian Challenger Circuits $10,000/- & $30,000/- (Professional Squash Association) to name a few.
The importance of sports in Jay’s life is evident from the repertoire of sports that he has pursued and actively competed in at various levels over the years. To name a few, squash, badminton, billiards/ snooker, horse riding, kite-surfing, trekking/ mountain climbing and hobby flying.
